Legalisation of documents

Since April 3 rd 2024, every citizen who has an electronic identity card (eID) can request a legalization or apostille for various documents via the public site eLegalization .

Which documents can be requested and submitted for legalization/apostille?

Different formats of deeds are available (copy, extract, multilingual extract from Vienna Convention).

Please note, if the deed has not yet been migrated to the DABS, the citizen must first request the migration of the deed at the municipality or consulate of where he/she is registered or at the commune or consulate that drew up the original paper deed. The municipality or consulate that drew up the original deed will then migrate the deed to the DABS.

How to access the citizen portal?

Access is possible via the public site eLegalization using the Belgian eID and a card reader (or the ITSME app).

Processing of the application

The submitted application will be processed within 24 hours (during working days) by the visa service in Brussels.

Once the application has been processed, an electronic payment request will be sent to the applicant by email.

After payment has been made, the legalized/apostilled document is immediately available in LegalWeb .

The documents are legalized or apostilled digitally by C3.5. Some countries do not recognize the digital legalization/apostille. In such cases, a paper legalization sticker will have to be affixed to the document. This is done exclusively at the C3.5 counter in Brussels.
